The roadmap is a suitcase
Everyone is tired, everyone is hiring, and most roadmaps still assume nothing happened last year.
Most roadmaps this summer remind me of a suitcase someone is sitting on to get the zipper closed. Everything still fits, technically. You just can’t breathe near it.
The plans were written as though the last fifteen months had been ordinary. People worked from bedrooms and kitchens and skipped vacations because there was nowhere to go. Now the news is full of people quitting, and next quarter’s plan assumes everyone is at full strength and staying put.
Something is going to give. I keep thinking the only real choice is whether a manager picks what gives, or whether it gets picked by whoever resigns first.
Suitcases like that do open eventually. Usually at the airport, all over the floor, with a line of strangers watching.
